The annual Daily Mail foursomes competition was played over Murrayshall on Thursday, September 12th. The morning conditions were very kind to those who played then unlike for the pair who played later in the afternoon!

  • 2nd with a net 69.5 Nicola Gilmore & Katherine Chambers

Hole In One!

The 4th hole in one of the season for a Murrayshall Lady member occurred on Thursday, September 5th during the first September Medal. Vice -Captain Nicola Gilmore watched in amazement as her well hit 7 iron rose high into the air, landed on the green at the 4th and rolled steadily up to the flag pin before dropping into the cup. The shrieks of delight could apparently be heard all the way to Luncarty!

Murrayshall Ladies Week-End Away

On Saturday August 31st 15 ladies made their way to Peebles for a week-end of good golf and good fun.

On Saturday 31st the ladies played the Peebles Cardrona setting off on their expedition at 1.00pm! And it was indeed an expedition, taking well over 5 hours to complete the round!! Conditions were tough and the weather was variable but a great time was had by all.
The photographs below show a sample of the intrepid group limbering up at the start of their round!

Our group played a tri-am competition and the results were as follows:

1st: Aileen Priestly, Isabel Meddicks & Meg Ritchie TOTAL 147
2nd: Jean Jasper, Marysia Whittet & Angela Beale TOTAL 148
3rd: Rhoda Evans, Libby Rodger & Judith Carmichael TOTAL 150
4th: Linda Gray, Katherine Chambers & Nicola Gilmore TOTAL 161
5th: Carol Tweedie, Betty Neilson & Margaret Mauchline TOTAL 169

As mentioned earlier the conditions were somewhat challenging and unfortunately Isabel's poor umbrella succumbed somewhat to the elements!!

Everyone did however enjoy a lovely meal and superb accommodation at the Cardrona that evening and wistful stories of what could have been were duly exchanged! (That also included the sack full of balls Linda and Nicola lost between them!!)

On Sunday September 1st our slightly larger group of 17 ladies played Peebles GC again in challenging weather conditions. On this day we played a team Stableford competition and all we were looking for was the best nest score at each hole - couldn't have been easier really could it?!!!

The top 3 placed teams were as follows:

1st: Libby Rodger, Katherine Chambers & Isabel Meddicks TOTAL Points 42
2nd: Jean Jasper, Aileen Priestley & Margaret Mauchline TOTAL Points 41
3rd: Nicola Gilmore, Carol Tweedie & Angela Beale TOTAL Points 41

Our week-end concluded with lovely food in the Peebles GC clubhouse followed by a short prize giving.

The final two prizes of the week-end were awarded as follows:
  • The Anorexic golfer award - for outstanding performance - Jean Jasper
  • Centenary Jean award - for great effort in the face of adversity - Rhoda Evans
We all look forward to next year's outing and whatever challenges that throws up!
